EMD Fan Contactors
60/70/80/90 Series
Measurements on 70 Series locomotives indicate that the original OEM fan contactors are marginally rated for the operation encountered:
- FCF-B steady state current exceeds contactor rating by approximately 15 percent
- FCF-B starting surge current exceeds contactor rating by approximately 67 percent
- FCS steady state current exceeds rating by approximately 10 percent

The OEM suggested replacement is a lower current rated component, and is subject to premature failure
